As you know, you child has recently started his/her GCSE courses and before we know it, they will be thinking about what to wear for the Prom! I’m sure you will agree that time is passing quickly and your child is growing up so fast. Soon enough, the pressures of their final exams will be upon us all and your child will be completing application forms for College, Employment or University.

For this reason, I would like to introduce to you a project that I will be expecting the students to complete during year 10. The aim of the project is to make sure that all students leave school with the skills required to be the best that they can be.  All young people have to continue education of some form until the age of 18 so for some, the skills would be useful for apprenticeships and for others, to continue studying at College or Sixth Form; either way, there are certain skills that young people need in order to do better. At some point over the next few years, your child may want to have a part time job. This project will allow him/her to evidence relevant experience for employment, giving them a better chance of getting the job they apply for.

This project is designed to meet the needs of all students and give them the opportunity to evidence skills gained outside the classroom. There are a number of tasks/challenges that the students are required to accomplish in order to complete the project. A copy of the information booklet has been given to all students to explain the project in detail. A copy will also be on our website.

I believe it is really important to give our students the best possible opportunities when they leave school, as they are competing with all the other 16 year old school leavers in the country. GCSE grades are extremely important but so are life skills, experience and responsibility. Being able to evidence this will have a significant impact on applications to future Employers and Education Providers.

I am writing to you to make you aware of the project so that you can support your child with this and promote the importance of gaining valuable skills through being independent and working hard. Students will have until May 2018 to complete the project and can have as much support as necessary throughout.

Kind Regards
